- Aradia or the Gospel of the Witches
- Many Italian witches believe in the historical existence of a woman named Aradia who brought about a revival of Italian Witchcraft. She is often called the Holy Strega or The Beautiful Pilgrim. In the oral traditions surrounding Aradia residing in the Old Religion of Italy it is said that she lived and taught during the later half of the 14th century. The Italian Inquisitor Bernardo Rategno documented in his Tractatus de Strigibus (written in 1508 AD.) that a "rapid expansion"" of the ""witches sect"" had begun 150 years prior to his Time. Rategno studied many transcripts from the trials of the Inquisition concerning Witchcraft.

- To arrive at some perspective on what the modern mythos called variously "Wicca"" the ""Old Religion"" ""Witchcraft"" and ""Neopaganism"" is we must firstly make a firm distinction; ""witchcraft"" in the popular informally defined sense may have little to do with the modern religion that goes by the same name.

- Alexandrian Book of Shadows
- Founded by Alexander Sanders and his (then) wife Maxine the Alexandrian
tradition is very similar to Gardnerian. Alex Sanders claimed to have been
initiated by his grandmother in 1933 and his tradition is somewhat more liberal
than traditional Gardnerian Wicca. While eclectic Alexandrian rituals are still
formal and based in ceremonial magick with highly polarized references to the
sexual dichotomy of male/female. Still the Alexandrians have relaxed some of
the more stringent Gardnerian teachings i.e. the requirement of ritual nudity
being made optional under Alexandrian teachings. Alexandrian Wheel of the Year
revolves around the struggles of the Oak King and Holly King generally as
depicted through ritual dramas. Though the rituals portray mainly the God in His
ever-changing nature and the main spokespeople for both Gardnerian and
Alexandrian Traditions have been male the primacy of the High Priestess (and
thereby the Goddess) is supposedly held as the highest authority in both trads. - $2.99 USD

- Pagan and Christian Creeds: their origin and meaning
- This book provides a systematic and logical approach to the origins of
religion. Many common themes are shown to exist between Christianity and
earlier Pagan religions that go back in time centuries before
Christianity itself. Carpenter makes an effort to get to the very roots
of religion in this book. He's trying to uncover where our religious
concepts first originated, and reveals an evolutionary sequence which
starts with phallic and procreative cults as having the earliest known
impact. Following this came a cult of magic, much along the lines of
Frazier's The Golden Bough, where spirits and earth divinities were
worshipped.

- MYTH, RITUAL, AND RELIGION
- First published in 1887, this early work of comparative mythology remains a vital resource to students and devotees of ethnography, history, and world legends. Lang's stunningly comprehensive overview of pre-scientific thinking provides an important perspective on the worldviews that molded and continue to influence modern thought. In this, the first of two volumes, Lang begins with a minimum definition of religion-"the belief in a primal being, a Maker"-explores the differences between mythology and religion, discusses the problems of seeking the origins of the belief in a deity, and examines totem-ism, nature myths, and creation stories from around the globe, including Greece, Asia, Australia, Africa, and the New World. Scottish journalist and author ANDREW LANG (1844-1912), the son of the sheriff-clerk of rural Selkirkshire, was educated at Edinburgh Academy, the Universities of St. Andrews and Glasgow, and Balliol College, Oxford. A contemporary and friend of Robert Louis Stevenson, he produced a stunning variety and number of volumes, including books of poetry, novels, children's books, histories, and biographies, as well as criticism, essays, scholarly works of anthropology, and translations of classical literature

- PANTHEISM Its Story and Significance
- It has been the customary and perhaps inevitable method of writers on Pantheism to trace its main idea back to the dreams of Vedic poets, the musings of Egyptian priests, and the speculations of the Greeks. But though it is undeniable that the divine unity of all Being was an almost necessary issue of earliest human thought upon the many and the one, yet the above method of treating Pantheism is to some extent misleading; and therefore caution is needed in using it.

- The Religion of Ancient Rome
- The Religion of Ancient Rome does a wonderful job of discussing the ancient Roman religion, before being influenced by Egyptian, and especially, Greek Culture. The author was interested in and has written a tight short book (just under 1,000 locations) about the insubstantial, unknown ancient gods, spirits, thoughts, call them what you will, but the impact of religion on Rome's founding. The author does a good job of explaining how the household was the key element in ancient Rome and how often Romans of the Republic didn't even remember why they did some of the ritual or who a god might have been.

- The Fairy-Faith in Celtic Countries
- This new edition of the classic study of traditional Celtic spirituality ties ancient Paganism, medieval myth, and traditional Fairy beliefs into a powerful celebration of Celtic wisdom and magic. The author, W. Y. Evans-Wentz, was best known as the translator of The Tibetan Book of the Dead. In the world of Celtic spirituality he made his mark through The Fairy-Faith in Celtic Countries. This magnificent book is a collection of stories, anecdotes, and legends from all six of the regions where Celtic ways have persisted in the modern world: Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, and the Isle of Man. It examines how Fairy spirituality survived in the face of hostility caused by modern science and religion. It celebrates how beliefs (which only a century ago were dismissed as quaint and superstitious) were, in fact, powerful principles of ancient Pagan magic that remained essential features of the Celtic world for generation after generation.

- The Religion of the Ancient Celts
- There is very little documentary evidence to go on. In particular, we have no actual sacred texts of the ancient Celts, as their texts were transmitted orally only to initiates, and disappeared forever when the last Druid died. Christianity became the dominant religion in the Celtic area before the oral traditions could become written down, unlike the Vedas in India. Ancient Celtic religious beliefs must therefore be inferred from second-hand classical accounts, hints from Celtic mythology, legend and folklore, as well as archaeological and comparative anthropological evidence. MacCulloch marshals this body of evidence, extensively footnoted, so that an authoritative and clear view of ancient Celtic religion emerges.

- Legends of Babylon and Egypt in relation to Hebrew tradition
- The great trunk-roads of through communication run north and south, across the eastern plateaus of the Hauran and Moab, and along the coastal plains. The old highway from Egypt, which left the Delta at Pelusium, at first follows the coast, then trends eastward across the plain of Esdraelon, which breaks the coastal range, and passing under Hermon runs northward through Damascus and reaches the Euphrates at its most westerly point. Other through tracks in Palestine ran then as they do to-day, by Beesheba and Hebron, or along the 'Arabah and west of the Dead Sea, or through Edom and east of Jordan by the present Hajj route to Damascus. But the great highway from Egypt, the most westerly of the trunk-roads through Palestine, was that mainly followed, with some variant sections, by both caravans and armies, and was known by the Hebrews in its southern course as the "Way of the Philistines" and farther north as the "Way of the East".

- The Babylonian Legends of the Creation
- The baked clay tablets and portions of tablets which describe the views and beliefs of the Babylonians and Assyrians about the Creation were discovered by Mr. (later Sir) A.H. Layard, Mormuzd Rassam and George Smith, Assistant in the Department of Oriental Antiquities in the British Museum. They were found among the ruins of the Palace and Library of Ashur-bani-pal (B.C. 668-626) at Kuyûnjik (Nineveh), between the years 1848 and 1876. Between 1866 and 1870, the great "find" of tablets and fragments, some 20,000 in number, which Rassam made in 1852, was worked through by George Smith, who identified many of the historical inscriptions of Shalmaneser II, Tiglath-Pileser III, Sargon II, Sennacherib, Esarhaddon, and other kings mentioned in the Bible, and several literary compositions of a legendary character, fables, etc.
